Goals & Objectives
The Greater Community Justice Program's goals and objectives focus on an offender focused, victim centered, community driven approach:
Goals
- To practice Restorative Justice principles in the work we do including, but not limited to, working with those who have been victimized, those who engaged in offending behaviour and community members.
- To provide opportunities for those who have been victimized to voluntarily talk about the incident, the impact it has had on them, and to be involved in the decision-making about what needs to happen in order to reduce or repair the harm caused by the incident.
- To provide opportunities for those who engaged in offending behaviour to voluntarily take ownership for their behaviour, to hear how their actions have impacted others, and to be involved in the decision-making about what needs to happen in order to reduce or repair the harm caused by their actions.
- To provide opportunities for members of the community to learn more about Restorative Justice and to be involved in processes rooted in Restorative Justice principles.
Objectives
- To develop and revise policies and procedures in a collaborative manner.
- To ensure program services and processes are based on Restorative Justice principles.
- To develop processes that provide those who have been victimized with options about how they will talk about the incident, its impact, and what they’d like to see happen.
- To refer those who have been victimized, when appropriate, to Victim Services and/or other community agencies.
- To develop processes for those who engaged in offending behaviour to voluntarily be accountable for their behaviour, to learn how their actions have affected others, and to make amends.
- To refer those who have engaged in offending behaviour, when appropriate, to community agencies.
- To develop opportunities for community members to be involved either by supporting individuals who have been victimized or those who have engaged in offending behaviour, and by being involved in the decision-making process.
- To provide learning opportunities for community members on Restorative Justice and other related topics.
